Why Hunt
Texas?
|
|
|
Texas is home to a
number of desert mule deer. These mulies are found in the trans-Pecos mountain region of far west Texas and the Palo Duro Canyon area in
the panhandle region of North Texas. Many of the mature bucks harvested in these areas are matching what is currently coming out of
the Rocky Mountain states. Hunters do not have to draw for a hunting license, nor do they have to pick a certain set of days to hunt like most mountain states. Hunters usually can hunt in a
comfortable climate, free of snow, and deep mud as often found in the Rocky Mountains. In addition, hunters may hunt out of a vehicle safari
style and have the opportunity to harvest additional game during their hunt such as feral hog, bobcat, fox, and
javelina.

Why Hunt With Us?
|
|
|
We research our ranches as thoroughly as
possible so as to insure our hunters enjoy a quality hunt. Our two
mule deer ranches comprising 57,000 acres, consistently produce top quality bucks for our
hunters. For nine consecutive years all of our Texas mule deer hunters
have been 100% successful with the exception of one.

Hunting Methods
|
|
|
Hunting is
conducted: safari-style out of 4WD vehicles with frequent stops to glass nearby mountains and canyons, walking and
stalking, and some stand hunting. We leave our hunting camps at
or before first light and return late morning for lunch.
Afterwards we once again head out into the field for the
afternoon hunt. Most shooting opportunities are at distances under 200 yards.

Hunter Expectations
|
|

|
Van Horn hunters can expect to see
many different bucks each day depending of course on the weather
conditions. It has not been uncommon to see as many as
20 different bucks per day along with other wildlife that frequent the ranch.
Bucks harvested from this ranch typically are between 22-27 inch inside spread, weighing from 155 lbs. to 210 lbs
field-dressed and score up to 185 B&C.
Amarillo hunters can expect to see from 10 to 60
different deer per day, including both whitetail deer and muledeer.
Mature whitetail bucks
antlers on this Amarillo ranch average between 120 B&C to
150 B&C with a rare buck grossing as much as 180
B&C. Muledeer bucks on this Amarillo ranch average between
20-26 inch inside spread, and score
from 155 B&C to 180 B&C with field-dressed weights from
160 lbs. to 215 lbs. Guides are very experienced and equipment well maintained. Cooks serve excellent meals and the overall camp has a feeling of warmth and camaraderie.
